Flow Circus and the State Library of North Carolina have partnered to start Juggling and Skill Toy Clubs for tweens, teens, and young adults at libraries across North Carolina.
This project will address the increased need for active young adult programs during after school and vacation hours by establishing juggling clubs in libraries across the state of North Carolina.
Working directly with tweens and teens, high-energy workshops will introduce unique skill toys as well as model 21st Century skills such as problem solving, teamwork, and creative thinking. Participants will be motivated to return to the library to utilize both print and non-print resources at the library to continue to develop new skills. Original participants will then serve as mentors as new members join the program.
The program will also benefit library professionals in North Carolina. Regional professional development seminars introducing the program to library staff will also provide needed teambuilding opportunities. As libraries across the state implement the program, the state listserv will allow staff to share best practices and new programming ideas. Each region will have sets of skill toys, books, and DVD’s to circulate and make available to their teens. The project will include regional staff trainings, hands-on programming working directly with teens, and a supply of juggling props, skill toys, books, and dvds that will be shared among libraries for ongoing programming.
Selection of grant recipients is based solely on votes. The opportunity for enabling this program lies in your hands. If you believe in the project and its benefits for staff, teens, and summer and vacation programming, PLEASE VOTE EVERYDAY! It's the way the program is designed. The total vote determines the winner. 1 person voting everyday is better than 20 people voting once!
If successful, this low-cost, engaging program for teens can serve as a model for libraries across the country. We need your help.
Estimated Time Commitment: Less than 1 minute per day!
